Fruitful weekend  for Canons as Lady Canons bounce back

It was a fruitful weekend for the UCU Canons in the National Basketball League as they were able to defeat the Namwuwongo Blazers and Our Saviour.

They became the first team to win ten games this season, further underlining their intention to win their first NBL title.

Peter Sifuma was voted “player of the game” in both games and was instrumental in both wins as he was able to tally 36 points and 27 rebounds across the weekend.

Adequate preparation has enabled the Canons to be consistent across the season, as they have clearly been the best side in the league.

The ability to play “championship” defense in critical moments in games, particularly against the Blazers, has been complimented by a free-flowing, high-scoring offense, hence making them a legitimate title contender.

As the first round comes to a conclusion, the boys from Mukono will have a target on their back from every team because of their early season form.

They play the eighth-placed JKL Dolphins on May 13th at the MTN Lugogo Arena, where they will be heavy favorites to win.

On the other hand, the Lady Canons bounced back in an emphatic way after a loss by defeating A1 Challenge basketball club 90-53 in a blowout win.

This was the perfect response after their loss to the KCCA leopards on Friday night, despite their attempt to make a late comeback.

The win was able to propel the Lady Canons to the top of the standings while also recording a season high of 90 points in scoring.

Tracy Namugosa voted player of the game

In an incredible scoring game, Tracy Namugosa was voted Tusker Lite player of the game for posting 22 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Her display was able to highlight the incredible depth that the Lady Canons have and can provide on any given day despite the injuries to key players like Agatha Kamwada.

Their next game is against Nabisunsa girls’ basketball club. They will go in as favorites to win this game, having won six out of their last seven games.
