UCU Lady Cardinals 1-2 Uganda Martyrs

The UCU Lady Cardinals suffered a setback in their fight to stay afloat in the FUFA Women’s Super League, falling short against Uganda Martyrs WFC 2-1 in a closely contested match played at the UCU Mukono Grounds.

Striker Latifah Nakasi proved to be a thorn in the Lady Cardinals’ side, netting a brace for the Uganda Martyrs, one in each half. This loss comes on the heels of a previous defeat to current league leaders, Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC.

“As a team, we are getting ready to see that the remaining games are treated as a final to ensure our stay in the league. We lost the game at home. We had a lot of chances but did not do enough to convert our chances.” Coach Francis Oketayot said.

Despite controlling large spells of the second half, UCU struggled to convert their dominance into goals. In an attempt to bolster their attacking options, the coaching staff introduced fresh legs with substitutions for strikers Atimango Winfred, Harima Kanyango, and Sandra Kisakye. However, these changes proved insufficient to equalise the scoreline.

When attacker Jovia Nakagolo found the back of the net late in the second half, the Lady Cardinals had a glimmer of hope. Still, UCU was unable to gain a point, so in the end, it was too little.

The Lady Cardinals’ chances of avoiding relegation are now uncertain as a result of this defeat. To guarantee their place in the FUFA Women’s Super League, the club must figure out how to turn the tide and win important games in their next games.
