When asked what plan they have for their opponent if any of them went through, Racheal Sserwada pledged to invite him in her government, so as to work together. “I am not a selfish person, I will make sure I work with Ayebare Phillip Bravo”, Sserwada submitted.

Ayebare Phillip agreed to the same diplomacy to work hand in hand with his opponent, in case he went through. He said, as a leader, he believes that there is a need to supplement one’s ideas. “There is a need to create that networking relationship”, he said.

These submissions were made at the guild presidential debate that occurred yesterday, on Thursday, 18th November prior to the guild elections.

The guild debate was live on Urban Television, and started at exactly 10:06 pm with presidential candidates, Ayebare Phillip bravo, a Business Administration student and Mirembe Sserwada Racheal a Law student, both at Uganda Christian University (UCU).

The debate was hosted by Lyn Komugisha, a UCU alumnus who fashioned an exciting political atmosphere for the watching audience both on television and social media.

Seemingly to have followed the cliché of ladies first, Sserwada was always the first to present her ideas.

She stressed how her manifesto is directed to ensuring improvement in the aspects of security, health, Students academic results and accountability.

She elaborated how the latter and her aspiration as a presidential candidate was to share her vision, which vision was realized, between her and her friends. This, she wanted to share with the student fraternity and make the UCU society better. “I looked at the situation at hand and realized that we have a vision that we need to share with the student fraternity”, she said.

Ayebare, said he believes that, after having served as a presidential assistant before, he cited some challenges that he decided to solve himself, being given the mandate.

He comes with a manifesto of resource mobilization, responding to Covid -19, improved student involvement in decision making, training of members of parliament elect, value addition to student degree, accountability, and security. “We need to be diligent, work hard to achieve our goals”, he submitted.

Ayebare says his inspiration to aspire for the guild election post was due to a passion to help and serve the student fraternity. “I am driven by a passion to help and serve the student community”, he explained.

The debate included intrudes from some students that expressed the kind of guild president they were expecting from both aspirants.

They desired an intelligent leader that will put students ‘s interests before theirs, one that will stand their ground and bring unity. “I want a candidate that will make sure all faculties at Uganda Christian University coordinate and unite as one, for us to have a better university”, Apucho Specioza”, one of the interviewed students said.

The chairperson electoral commission, Lawrence Ndawula, assured students that the elections are to be free and fair, therefore students were to come and execute their right to vote.

The serving guild president, Agaba Kenneth Amponda, also called upon students to come vote, not according to money or tribe, but someone that is going to work. “Let us not vote because of tribe, money, but someone with a workable manifesto and is going to work”, He advised.
