    UCU – Dolphins, 7 p.m

    By Michael Ainomugisha

The 2024 Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) Women’s National Basketball League finals will once again see the UCU Lady Canons face off against the JKL Lady Dolphins, reigniting a 2022 NBL final thriller.

This final is a rematch of the 2022 championship series, where the Lady Canons triumphed in a dramatic seven-game series, winning 4-3 to secure their eighth league title.

Lady Canons, who have won league championships in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2022, will be trying for their ninth championship.

In 2022, the Lady Canons showed outstanding resilience, winning four straight games after dropping the first two games of the finals. Their effort in Game Seven, where they defeated the Lady Dolphins 75-67, remains a highlight of their championship history, where Millicent Otieno scored a game-high 28 points, including an impressive seven three-pointers.

The Lady Canons secured a final spot after a 3-1 win against the KIU Rangers in the semi-finals.They come to this final with experienced players, including captain Shakirah Nanvubya, Aziida Nabayuga, Briget Aber, Caroline Nakato, Hajjara Najjuko, and then rookies Tracy Namugosa and Prosper Anyine, who played on the 2022 title-winning team.

Meanwhile, the JKL Lady Dolphins will be driven by the desire for redemption after their 2022 finals loss. Secured their spot in the finals with a 3-1 win over the JT Lady Jaguars and are determined to reclaim the championship.

The two will face off in game one of a best-of-seven series.
