She Kasese 1-1 UCU Lady Cardinals
    By Michael Ainomugisha

Uganda Christian University Women’s Football Club (UCU Lady Cardinals) were held to a 1-1 draw against She Kasese SC in a FUFA Women’s Elite League fixture played at Nyakabanga Grounds in Kasese on Saturday, 26 April 2025.

The hosts took an early lead in the 7th minute after capitalising on a misplaced pass from UCU’s Jane Nantongo, allowing the She Kasese attackers to combine neatly for the opening goal.

Despite a strong midfield effort from Nantongo, Mercy Amoding, Cathy Nassimbwa, and skipper Catherine Nakiridde, UCU struggled to find the back of the net before the water break and half-time.

In the second half, the Lady Cardinals shifted their strategy, opting for a counter-pressing approach deep in the opponents’ half. The adjustment paid off when Nakiridde was fouled near the She Kasese penalty area, leading to a well-taken free-kick by defender Peace Aloyo to level the match on the hour mark.

What followed was a tense and heated battle, with UCU picking up multiple yellow cards. However, strong leadership from Nakiridde helped the team maintain composure amid the pressure from the home crowd, who were desperate for points to avoid relegation.

Later, deputy captain Anita Akayo was introduced for fullback Maureen Mukisa, who was feeling unwell, resulting in Jane Nantongo shifting to the fullback position.

Despite some questionable refereeing decisions, the Lady Cardinals held on to secure a hard-fought point away from home.

Starting XI:  Barbara Natasha (GK) 30, Catherine Nakiridde 11 (C), Adok Jolly Charity 4, Mercy Amoding 5, Peace Aloyo 06, Maureen Mukisa 14, Cathy Nassimbwa 10, Phionah Mataama 16, Betty Nakyeyune 20, Harriet Mugambwa 23, Jane Nantongo 28.
