John W. Gardner, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Education, once said that “peaceful transitions of power are a hallmark of successful societies.”

Uganda Christian University (UCU) has once again demonstrated the importance of peaceful transitions of power, as the 24th guild government handed over to the 25th guild government in a peaceful and organized manner. The handover ceremony was presided over by Bridget K. Mugume Mugasira, the Director of Student Affairs (DOSA).

The 24th Guild Government of UCU was characterized by its determination and resilience, as evidenced by their motto, “Resilience is the new normal.” The guild president, Racheal Sserwadda, attributed the success of her government to the support and love of the student body rather than financial resources.

“It is not because of my money, but because the students loved me and elected me,” Sserwadda explainedda.

The outgoing cabinet was highly commended for its accomplishments, which were made possible through the support of the university administration, specifically the DOSA office. This support enabled the cabinet to execute its duties effectively and achieve numerous successes.

As she handed over the mantle of leadership, Sserwadda stressed the importance of collaboration and communication between the DOSA’s office, the incoming guild government, and the student body to ensure effective governance and build upon the successes of the previous government.

The ceremony was crowned by awarding of accolades to the members of the outgoing cabinet who were excellent performers in the 24th guild government.
