Student arrested for theft at UCU

A third-year law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU), Osbert Alinda, has been arrested and is being held at UCU police station.

Alinda was arrested yesterday at his hostel, after the police say he stole two laptops belonging to Akum Annah, a Computer Science student, from the computer laboratory.

According to the deputy chief of UCU security, Jonathan Kainamura, Alinda was captured on CCTV cameras taking the bags when he believed no one was watching.

This comes after another student, Justus Bahati was arrested two weeks back at Nsibambi Hall over theft.

Kainamura pointed out that this is mainly due to students’ negligence.

“We advise students to lock their doors whenever they leave their rooms, but many still leave them open. We remind them not to leave their keys at the door, yet they do. Despite our efforts to hold awareness talks, attendance is often low. Students frequently invite strangers into their rooms, showing a lack of caution. It seems many are taking their security for granted,” he said.

He also pointed out that some students own expensive laptops and phones and yet they do not secure their rooms properly.
