UCU Canons 78–70 Sommet Basketball Club

    (21-11, 26-19, 20-20, 11-20)

The UCU Canons secured their second victory of the 2025 National Basketball League season with a well-earned 78-70 win over Sommet Basketball Club in front of their home crowd in Mukono.

Coming off a difficult run that saw them drop three of their first four fixtures, the Canons entered the game under pressure—and delivered a performance that may mark an improvement for their campaign’s momentum.

From the outset, both teams played with urgency, but it was UCU who had a commanding early lead, outscoring Sommet 21-11 in the first quarter and extending their lead to 47-30 at half-time.

Joel Kayiira was central to UCU’s control of the game, posting a commanding 12-point, 18-rebound double-double, disrupting Sommet’s interior offence. His efforts created multiple second-chance opportunities that kept UCU in control despite a late fourth-quarter shift from the visitors.

Lwabanga Ibanda and Daniel Muganzi each scored 15 points, while guard Jimmy Otim contributed 14, ensuring that the Canons maintained a steady scoring pace throughout.

For Sommet, Molisho Mohammed led the charge with 16 points, and John Focus Teko added 11, but their comeback bid came too late to overturn UCU’s strong early showing.

With the win, the Canons will be set for their fixture against another university side KIU Titans on Monday, 21st April at 2:00pm at YMCA Wandegeya.
