Uganda Christian University Doves stayed on course in their title defense at the Association of Ugandan University Sports Games with a 3–1 win over Kampala International University at the UCU volleyball court.
The Doves took three sets and conceded one in a match that tested their composure, especially early on. In the opening set, UCU struggled on service, gifting KIU several points through errors at the net. KIU took advantage and pushed the hosts hard.
Doves captain Elly Naguma said pressure affected the team at the start.
“We came into the game under pressure. Our positioning was not good at first, but we adjusted our structure and improved,” he said.
Despite the shaky start, UCU recovered well. Strong defending and solid blocking at the net helped them win crucial points on rebounds. The Doves edged the first set 31–29 after a tense finish.
UCU dominated the second set, settling into rhythm and limiting errors to claim a comfortable 25–12 win. KIU responded in the third set, capitalizing on UCU lapses to take it 25–21 and force a fourth.
The Doves closed the match with a composed performance in the fourth set, winning 25–17 to seal their second win in Pool A.
The victory keeps UCU unbeaten in the competition and strengthens their push toward the knockout stage. The Doves return to action tomorrow evening against Makerere University Business School in their final group match before the semifinal draw, as they continue their bid to retain the AUUS volleyball title.
