Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory over KCCA in a highly contested National Volleyball League match at Lugogo Indoor Arena on February 2, 2025.

The match started with an intense first set that had fans on the edge of their seats. UCU’s Nicholas received a red card, awarding KCCA crucial points to level the game at 30-30.

However, UCU showed resilience, pushing through the pressure to claim the set 37-35 in a breathtaking finish.

In the second set, UCU took early control, dominating KCCA with precise attacks and solid defense. Despite a few service errors that allowed their opponents some hope, UCU maintained composure and sealed the set 25-20.

“Our aim was to get maximum points, which we are grateful to have achieved; we stuck to our game plan because we studied the teams we are going to play, their strengths and weaknesses,” said UCU Doves Coach Juma Osunge.

With two sets in the bag, UCU entered the third determined to finish the job. They overpowered KCCA with strong blocks and aggressive serves.

Captain Mark Omara Ochan led from the front, delivering a stellar performance as UCU wrapped up the match with a 25-21 victory, marking their second after the restart of the league.

The win cements UCU’s push for a strong finish in the second round of the league, and they now prepare to face Prisons, a team fighting to avoid relegation.

“We can’t take them for granted because they are aiming to collect points to survive; it is a crucial game, do-or-die, and we hope for victory.” He added.
