Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves, the men’s volleyball team, ended the weekend on a high as they managed to gunner two victories on the run.
In Saturday’s hotly contested encounter, the Doves easily edged past Sky Volleyball Club with a maximum score of three sets to zero.
Nothing seemed to stop the already fired up doves, and this fact was well proved yesterday as they overran the Tigers Volleyball Club, winning three sets to one in quite some style.
Samuel David Lukaire, the sports administrator at UCU, showered praise on the team for this assuring and comfortable victory.
“It’s a fine start to the season beyond doubt. We have had a fantastic pre-season where we played three tournaments and won one, so there’s a real transformation,” said Lukaire.
These consecutive victories have boosted the mood within the team, which was well needed after their shocking loss in the league opener against Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club.
The highly anticipated inauguration match proved to be a painful eye opener as the Doves were dealt a big blow as they lost three sets to zero.
“The players had gotten a little comfortable due to the high-flying pre-season performance,” assured Samuel.
The UCU Doves narrowly survived relegation last season as they finished 8th in the league, but are much more determined this time round to finish much higher in the league.
Meanwhile, the UCU Lady Doves also finished the weekend in scintillating fashion as they won their first two opening games of the season against Cobap and Mulago volleyball teams.
“This is a good start to the season and we’ll have to wait and see what happens next. There are playoffs to play let them get there and we will see the possibility,” asserted Samuel.
It is imperative to note that the UCU Lady Doves were relegated last season from the Uganda Volleyball Federation women’s series A to Serie B and we’ll be looking for a comeback to the major league.
