Uganda Christian University (UCU) is well known for its high academic standards. This implies a raised bar when it comes to seriousness and morals, but as the famous proverb goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” The university, through the 24th guild government, organized a sports gala.
The day-long event was hosted at UCU Mukono with the participation of students from Kampala campus and Uganda’s Law Development Center (LDC).
“When students from different campuses come together, there is an enhancement of students’ social capital,” said Sarah Adokorach, the guild sports minister for UCU’s main campus.
The students were engaged in different activities, among which were football, volleyball, netball, basketball, chess, and athletics.
According to Boss John Bruce, the guild president of LDC and an alumnus of UCU, actively participating in these games has a health benefit.
“A sports gala is a place where we come to shed some weight,” said Bruce.
Bruce, who also played football against UCU School of Medicine, added that such an event is a good public relations tactic.
“For example, it strengthens ties between LDC and UCU,” noted Boss.
The event was hampered by light rain, but as it cleared in the afternoon, activities resumed, and at the end of the day, the best performers from various sports were recognized and awarded.
