Church relations headed by Rev. Dr. Richard Mulindwa has launched the UCU Sunday on behalf of the Church of the Province of Uganda under the theme, “Anchored in Christ for Unity, Peace and Stability.” This happened during the Community worship on Tuesday, 1st Sept. in Nkooyoyo Hall.
This year, 27th September is the day set aside by the Church of Uganda for UCU Sunday. It is the day it’s followers come together as a family of God to pray for the University, popularize it using different Church structures but also use the day as an opportunity to give financial support towards its mission. It gives them an opportunity to understand more about what is happening in the University.
Every time UCU Sunday is conducted, Money is collected of which is channeled to the University’s different accounts to carry out support and development of the University.
Mulindwa says that with the money collected during that Sunday, part of it is used to support the needy children. “ We give tuition support to the Clergy children whom some of their parents have retired and are struggling financially but wish their children to study from UCU.”
He added that some of the money is put aside and used for developing the University’s infrastructure. “ a good University affects the students learning positively, you can’t be in a dusty University where there are dilapidated buildings and you think learning will go on normally.”
Mulindwa further stretched that since it’s the University’s mandate to groom the Clergy, part of the money is also used for that course.
“We need priests, each and every year priests retire and we have to train the new ones to take up the job for tomorrow since those who retire doesn’t mean God’s mission too has to retire.”
Mulindwa however appeals to all the people of God out there that on the 27th this month, let’s unite together as one family of God to pray for the University and also give generously for it’s Mission.
Mrs. Daphine okiria who is the secretary, Church relations added that, “ Since it’s a provincial event, it affects all of us Christians under Church of Uganda even the smallest church in the village will participate so let us speak in unison for the success of this event.”
