The defending champions UCU Lady Canons showcased their prowess once again, cruising to a commanding 73-44 win over Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in a highly anticipated Group A clash at the 20th Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games on December 20, 2025.

Hosted at Uganda Christian University’s main campus in Mukono, the game lived up to its billing as a showdown between two powerhouse programs. UCU, the reigning champions, entered the contest with high expectations after thrashing Kyambogo University 86-20 on the opening day. MUBS, last year’s finalists, posed a stern test, but the Lady Canons’ superior preparation and execution proved decisive.

From the tip-off, UCU asserted dominance with sharp ball movement and relentless defense. They built a substantial lead in the first half, capitalizing on fast breaks and accurate shooting to stifle MUBS’ offensive rhythm. The hosts extended their advantage in the third quarter, forcing turnovers and converting them into easy points. By the final buzzer, UCU had outscored their rivals in every period, holding MUBS to under 45 points while pouring in 73 of their own.

Key performers for UCU included standout contributions from the team’s core players, with balanced scoring across the lineup highlighting their depth. The Lady Canons’ defensive pressure was particularly impressive, limiting MUBS to low-percentage shots and disrupting their flow throughout the 40 minutes.

Post-game, UCU’s Saima Christine, a reliable guard known for her composure and scoring ability, credited the victory to collective effort. “We prepared together as a team because MUBS is not an easy game,” she said. “We knew they were tough finalists last year, so we focused on unity and execution. This win feels great, and we are prepared for our next game tomorrow.”

The result strengthens UCU’s position as they aim to defend their title in the women’s basketball tournament featuring seven teams. With momentum on their side, the Lady Canons look poised for a deep run in the competition, which runs until December 23.

As the AUUS Games continue, fans can expect more thrilling action from Uganda’s top university athletes across multiple disciplines.
