Year Two students won the Uganda Christian University School of Law Sports Gala after a strong run across football and other track events during the two-day competition held on November 14 and 15 at the main campus in Mukono.
The gala opened on Friday evening with basketball and continued on Saturday with football, sack races, egg races, Okwepena and short races. The football competition was the main highlight, and Year Two dominated from start to finish.
They won all their three matches. They beat Year Three 2–0 in a tense game where both sides received indirect red cards after two yellow cards each. In the final, they edged the new entrants into the School of Law 1–0 after a neat finish from Aaron Omoding.
Year One reached the final after holding Year Three to a goalless draw and beating Year Four 2–1. Year Four finished bottom with no point and no goal from open play. Their only goal came from a penalty against Year One.
At the crowning ceremony, Jimmy Longa was named best performer of the gala. Aliunzi Vuiciri finished as top scorer with two goals. Longa said their teamwork grew from regular Saturday morning class training sessions at the Old Pitch.
Year Four won the sack race through David Tusubira. Year Two finished second. In the egg race, Year Two came first, and Year Four followed. In the Okwepena game (dodgeball), Year One came in second, Year Two third, and Year Three won. Year Two also won the egg-on-spoon race, ahead of Year Four and Year Three.
In the 100-metre boys race, Year Four won, Year Two came second and Year Three finished third.
In Friday night’s final, Year Three defeated Year Two 55-31 to win the basketball championship.
