Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals emerged victorious over Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga (UMHSL) in a closely contested football match, on Monday, May 3, at FUFA technical centre Njeru. Jauharah Nabaggala’s strike in the 14th minute of the first half made the difference as UCU Lady Cardinals edged past their opponents with a 1-0 win, booking their place in the finals of the FUFA Women Super League.

Simon Asiimwe ,the Assistant head coach for the ‘cardinals’, in his post match interview was excited and expressed his gratitude to the players and UCU administration. “I want to thank the players for the job well done and also the University administration for its support and making things possible for them,” said Coach Asiimwe.

Regarding preparations for the finals, Asiimwe thinks his team needs to improve more on its creativity in the midfield area to create more chances and score more goals.

The Cardinals Captain Hassifah Nassuna after the game said he is happy the team has qualified for the finals. “ It has been a struggle but I thank God we have made it. We look forward to winning at the finals,” she said.

The cardinals will now face Lady Doves in this season’s FUFA Women Super League finals.

Unlike the 2018-2019 Finals between the two that happened at the MTN Omondi stadium, where the UCU Cardinals emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, this time the match will be played at the FUFA technical centre Njeru, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
