The Church of Uganda celebrated the seventh annual Uganda Christian University (UCU) Sunday on September 29, with Anglican churches across the country joining in to support the university. Initiated in 2017 by the House of Bishops, the event has become part of the Ugandan Anglican Christian calendar, dedicated to offering prayers, financial contributions, and raising awareness about the university’s mission to provide quality education rooted in Christian values.

The aim of UCU Sunday is to offer prayers for the growth and success of the university, and to raise funds to meet various needs. Over the years, UCU has received financial contributions from all the dioceses of the Ugandan Anglican Community.

The funds raised during UCU Sunday are earmarked for specific initiatives that benefit the university and its stakeholders.

Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi noted that the funds received from UCU Sunday are directed towards three primary areas: “Capacity-building programmes for clergy, tuition support for clergy children, and infrastructure development projects at UCU’s main campus and our regional colleges.

Mushengyezi shared that 20% of the funds are dedicated to tuition support for the children of clergy, “We want to ensure that the next generation of leaders has access to quality education,” he said.

Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu rallied the anglican community to pray for UCU. “We should pray for our institution, and give generously towards its success,” stated Mugalu.
