The Abasoga Nseete, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Chapter, held its first general meeting of the semester yesterday with society funding and the upcoming cultural gala as the main topics on the agenda.

The meeting discussed ideas, opportunities and avenues available that they can exploit to boost their visibility and perform better in this year’s cultural gala.

“It was about restrategising and acting as a fundraiser because we’re not doing well financially,” Hon. John Albert Muwanika, the president emeritus, said.

Muwanika, who now serves as the Deputy Minister of Partnerships and External Affairs in Guild, stressed that the new association leadership under Keith Kirya needs to uplift the club and foster its growth. “We need to fulfil the dreams and aspirations of our predecessors,” Muwanika said.

The Association President, Keith Kirya, told the audience in the meeting that unity and togetherness play a part in the journey to success, which is why students need to find it important to be a part of such meetings. “Social capital is important, and it’s easy to build it if you have something in common.”

He further urged his kinsmen and, by extension, all students to keep the pride and identity of their tribes while cautioning those who tend to conceal their origins. “That’s who you are, and there’s nothing to be ashamed about,” he said.

The coordinator of the association, Hon. Demiano Madundu, highlighted unity and cultural identity as the driving force behind these meetings.

“They’re very monumental because they help us showcase who we are.” He also made a clarion call on the new students belonging to the tribe who are not aware of the existence of these cultural associations.

With renewed commitment from its leaders and a call for more students to join, the Abasoga Nseete UCU Chapter is positioning itself for a stronger presence this semester, one rooted in unity, cultural pride, and collective growth.
