    AUUS GAMES: Makerere Dominates Soroti

Makerere University’s football team, alias The Enzymes, showcases an outstanding performance at the expense of Soroti University in a 3:0 win in their first game of the group stage phase.

The Enzymes took an early lead only after four minutes of play in the first half of the game courtesy of Ivan Ocheng’s penalty conversion. They again netted twice in Soroti University’s goal posts before halftime through their talisman Emmanuel Ekong’ brace.

In a highly blistering and tight clash characterized by tension on Soroti University’s side, grit, determination, and composure by the Enzymes made the most entertaining game for the Makerere students in the stands.

The win now put the Enzymes in a comfortable seat at the top of the group A table standings with three points and a goal difference of three goals, whereas Soroti University sits at the bottom of the table with no points and a deficit of three goals conceded against Makerere University.

In his address to the press, Makerere University’s head coach, William Kasozi, praised his side for converting their chances earlier in the first half of the game, which gave them the ability to dominate the opponent all through.

Soroti University’s Head Coach Michael Fotin Eresu, in his post-match press conference with our reporter, clearly stated his side’s defeat in their first game of the group stage phase was because of failure by his players to convert their chances in the opponent’s penalty area.

“There are so many factors that determine a team’s performance; one of them is fatigue. My team arrived late in the morning around 1am and slept late; hence, the reason why we conceded three early goals in the first half. But as a coach I had to change my tactics, and in the second half we portrayed strong resistance to the opponent. Said Eresu.
