    UCU 70 – 60 Sommet
    By Michael Ainomugisha

UCU Canons wrapped up their National Basketball League season on a high after defeating Sommet Basketball Club 70–60 in the third-place playoff on Tuesday, 7 October, at Lugogo Arena.

Sommet started the brighter of the two sides, edging the first quarter 19–17, but the Mukono side rallied back to take a 33–27 lead at halftime.

The contest remained finely balanced as Sommet regained a slim 47–46 advantage heading into the final period.

However, the Canons found their rhythm when it mattered most, dominating the fourth quarter 24–13 to seal the victory and the bronze medal.

Daniel Muganzi led the scoring for UCU with a game-high 18 points, while Flore Dushime and Alier Pech added 15 and 12 points, respectively. For Sommet, Mark Ngobi top-scored with 17 points as Peter Cheng and Kasereka Tembo contributed 14 and 12 points in a losing effort.

The result capped a spirited campaign for UCU, who had earlier fallen 3–0 to Namuwongo Blazers in the semi-finals but bounced back to secure a podium finish against an opponent they beat 65:62 to finish third in the 2024 NBL season.
