Christians encouraged to speak to Christ

Uganda Christian University (UCU) has officially launched the Trinity semester Mission Week, beginning with a Sunday service held on February 9 at Thornycroft Chapel, Kyaggwe. The service was led by the main missioner, Bishop Benjamin Kwashi from Nigeria, who delivered a powerful message urging believers to embrace simplicity in their relationship with Christ.

“Engage in a simple conversation with Jesus. That’s where theology is. It’s not in what the book said,” the bishop told the congregation. He called on those in positions of spiritual leadership, particularly teachers of the Word, to emulate Christ’s humility and extend compassion to those in need.

The theme of this year’s Mission Week centers on evangelism and discipleship within the university community. As part of the week’s activities, missionaries are moving through hostels, lecture rooms, and other student spaces, sharing the Gospel and engaging in one-on-one evangelism.

Drawing from scriptures such as John 8:24 and John 3:18, Bishop Kwashi encouraged the UCU fraternity to live by faith, stressing the importance of prioritizing Christ in their lives. The service concluded with a benediction from Matthew 6:33, reminding attendees to “seek first the kingdom of God.”

The week-long event has already borne fruit, with several students reportedly committing their lives to Christ during the opening service. Gregory Coutinho, a resident of Elite Hostel in Bugujju, shared his experience: “I welcomed the missionaries with open arms, and I’ve found delight in the Word lately.”

Mission Week is a semester tradition at UCU aimed at fostering spiritual growth among students, staff, and the broader university community. As activities continue throughout the week, the message remains clear: Christ is the Author and Finisher of our faith
