UCU Angels 46–44 KCCABy Michael Ainomugisha
Uganda Christian University Angels produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat KCCA Netball Club 46–44 in a tightly contested Matchday 4 fixture of the 2025 Uganda Netball Super League on 1st May at HAMZ Stadium, Nakivubo.
Angel’s victory preserved their unbeaten run and also solidified their place at the top of the league table. The Mukono-based side has now registered four wins from four matches, having previously beaten Dynamite Netball Academy, UGISA, and UGX Luwero.
With both teams entering the encounter unbeaten, the match carried high stakes from the outset. KCCA began strongly, capitalising on UCU’s early mistakes. KCCA dominated the first quarter, leading 15–8 through clinical finishing and relentless high pressing.
“We finished the first quarter with a number of avoidable mistakes and a poor goal difference, which gave our opponents an upper hand, especially in the first half,” said UCU captain Linda Muziigo.
Although UCU attempted to settle into rhythm during the second quarter, KCCA’s defence remained firm, limiting the Angels’ opportunities and maintaining an eight-point lead at the break (23–15).
The turning point came in the third quarter. After a strong halftime regroup, UCU returned with increased energy. The defenders disrupted KCCA’s flow and forced multiple turnovers, especially from the new faces introduced by KCCA after a dominant half. This renewed intensity saw the Angels close the gap to 35–29 by the end of the quarter.
In the final quarter, UCU delivered a remarkable comeback. Their attacking transitions became smoother, defensive organisation tightened, and scoring was near flawless. The Angels overtook KCCA for the first time in the final minutes and held on for a dramatic two-goal victory.
“Despite the slow start, the energy in the final quarter was evident; my teammates showed character from the very start until the end. There is no team in the league that is here just to participate; all teams come with the aim of competing and possibly winning the league,” Muziigo noted.
“The win is a motivation for everyone on the team, a push that creates more confidence for the ladies to believe they can competitively face any team. Before we played KCCA, they were unbeaten too, so this was a determinant win—especially against such an opponent,” she added.
