UCU 5–0 Ateker WFC

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals strengthened their push for promotion with a commanding 5–0 win over Ateker Women’s Football Club in the FUFA Women Elite League.
The victory marks UCU’s third straight league win and keeps their hopes of returning to the Finance Trust Bank Women Super League alive.
Playing their sixth match of the 2025–26 season in the Victoria Division, the Lady Cardinals dominated from the start and put the game beyond reach inside the opening 30 minutes. Ritah Adero struck twice, while Jane Nantongo and Harriet Muwugumya added to the tally in a ruthless first-half display. Prossy Basemera sealed the win with a fifth goal in the 70th minute.
UCU controlled the game across all areas, dominating possession, winning tackles, and recovering the ball effectively. Captain Catherine Nakiridde came close to adding a sixth but saw her effort strike the crossbar. Basemera was named Woman of the Match for her standout performance.
Head coach Colline Ahumuza credited the team’s recent improvement to growing match fitness and better organisation.
“We had a difficult start to the season, losing our first three games. It was a tricky period for us,” she said.
Ahumuza explained that limited preseason preparation affected the team early on.
“We had not prepared well enough in terms of match fitness. The university games alone were not enough to get us ready for the league,” she noted.
She added that the team has improved with more games.
“As we kept playing, the team became more organised, and that is why we are now getting results.”
With momentum building, UCU will look to maintain their winning run as they continue their push for FUFA Women’s Super League qualification.
