Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 Uganda Cup Women category after defeating BUL FC Women 3-1 in the Round of 16.
The game, played this evening at UCU’s Main Football Pitch at Mukono Campus on a wet surface after a heavy afternoon downpour, saw UCU Lady Cardinals cruise past BUL FC Women in a glittering 3-1 victory.
With Prossy Basemera scoring for the second time in a row, Cathy Nassimbwa netting her fourth goal in the last three games for the Lady Cardinals, and Ritah Adyero sealing the victory, the efforts of the star players overshadowed the only goal for BUL FC Women. The visitors’ goal came from an own goal by Lady Cardinals goalkeeper Annita Akayo after a shot by Shifa Namubiru struck her back and went into the net.
A game of high composure by UCU Lady Cardinals, with limited resistance from BUL FC Women, especially in the first half, registered three goals and ended 2-1 in favour of the Lady Cardinals at the break. The second half only registered Ritah Adyero’s goal.
With three consecutive wins, the Lady Cardinals today gave a chance to their second-choice goalkeeper, Annita Akayo, a three-season spell at UCU Lady Cardinals, replacing first-choice goalkeeper Brenda Kasana, who is pursuing her first season of football at the Mukono-based team. Her start today was her second this season, following her first appearance in the Lady Cardinals’ earlier win against Highway Ladies WFC in March this year.
UCU Lady Cardinals now await the winner of the Sheema Girls versus Lady Doves FC tie for the quarter-final clash scheduled for 6 June 2026. They will later face BUL Women FC again in the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Women Elite League, Victoria Division, at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on a date to be communicated, as 6 June has been taken up by the Women Cup quarter-finals.
