The Federation of Ugandan Football Association (FUFA) Women Elite League starts on February 28, 2026, with teams from across the country set to compete for promotion and pride. Uganda Christian University Lady Cardinals will open their campaign away to Gold Star Women Football Club at Bukedea Amus Stadium at 4 pm.
Head coach Collin Ahumuza said the team has worked to solve last season’s biggest weakness, which was a thin squad. “We only had 14 players. This season we have signed a few players to boost our squad depth,” Ahumuza said.
UCU has licensed eight new players ahead of the season. These include goalkeeper Brenda Kasana, defenders and midfielders Angopa Harriet, Prossy Basemera, Patricia Kawuma, Rita Kadondi, Brenda Nabunya, Nancy Anena, and forward Tracy Lakica.
Ahumuza said the additions give the team a stronger chance to compete for promotion to the FUFA Women Super League.
“These players will help us fight harder than last year. Our target is to return to the top league, and we have prepared the team mentally and physically through training, conditioning and friendly games,” he said.
The Lady Cardinals played two preseason friendlies against Mukono High School, winning 4-0 and 2-1. All goals came from forward Meble Kusasira, who impressed with her sharp form.
UCU finished second in the Elizabeth Group last season and missed out on promotion. They will aim to correct that this year.
Captain Moreen Mukisa urged her teammates to stay united and focused.
“We should give our best in every game and treat each match like a final. It is the only way we can get back to the top and earn promotion to the Super League,” Mukisa said.
