    Online learning to continue

Students at the Uganda Christian University (UCU) will continue with online learning
until further notice, according to sources The Standard has spoken to.
The sources within the university, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the
decision was reached following a meeting of the university’s administration team held
    on Monday.

This comes after the university community was informed through a memo
issued by the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Rev. Prof. John
Kitayimbwa, on Sunday, of a temporary shift to online learning from Monday to
Wednesday. However, as of Thursday, physical classes had not resumed, prompting
    uncertainty among students.

The Director of Student Affairs, Ms Pamela Tumwebaze, has urged students
experiencing challenges with online learning to formally raise their concerns through
    their class representatives.
“I wish class representatives of students who are facing challenges would write
reports and share them with their Deans, Quality Assurance, and the Deputy Vice
Chancellor Academic Affairs. Some problems may be solvable. Don’t sit with them.
because February 10 is still weeks away,” Tumwebaze said.

The transition follows a directive from the Ministry of Education and Sports, which
instructed institutions to delay reopening until February 10 due to safety concerns
surrounding the general elections. At the time the ministry’s directive was issued,
UCU had already reopened for physical learning on January 7.

The university has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the duration of the
continued online learning or the timeline for resumption of physical classes.
