Sarah Abonyo scored the all-important goal as the UCU Lady Cardinals registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Makerere University in the FUFA Women Super League on Wednesday.

In the game that was played at UCU Sports Ground, the Purple Ladies managed to hold their nerves before they got hold of maximum points in the dying moments.

Sandra Kisakye went through a forest of legs thanks to her quick feet, but her resultant effort went to waste in the eighth minute.

Ten minutes later, Catherine Nakiride’s freekick in front of the goal hardly got any contact as it sailed inches away from the frame.

Ucu Lady Cardinals custodian Hadijah Nalongo was brought to action six minutes after half an hour, but the lanky custodian was equal to the talent.

Amidst a number of chances created in front of goal, none was converted, and the first stanza ended 0-0.

Meble Kusasira failed to guide the ball into the net from close range as the crowd thought their time to rejoice had finally come on top of the hour.

Shadia Nankya witnessed his header rattle the frame in yet another miss for the hosts, who badly wanted to take the lead.

In added time, Abonyo finally broke the deadlock in the 92nd minute as the Lady Cardinals registered their second win in a row.

The victory sends the Lady Cardinals to the fifth position on the log with 11 points after playing eight games.

How the UCU Lady Cardinals lined up

Hadijah Nalongo (GK), Atimaku Nicole, Maureen Mukisa, Shadia Nankya, Peace Aloyo, Faith Apio, Harima Kanyago, Mercy Amoding, Meble Kusasira, Catherine Nakiride, and Sandrah Kisakye
