The Scholarship Office at Uganda Christian University (UCU) has launched a new music and performance competition dubbed “Your Voice is Giving” to help raise funds for students facing tuition challenges, under the theme, “You sing, they study.”

“We are encouraging talented students to use their gifts in support of their peers who cannot afford tuition,” said Dorothy Tushemereirwe, coordinator of the Omega  Scholarship Fund. “This is the inaugural event, the first of its kind. If it succeeds, it shall become one of our annual fundraising activities, this year’s response will inform the subsequent ones,” she added.

The talent show offers an alternative for students and staff who may not be interested in participating in the university’s traditional annual tuition run. “The thinking is, if you’re not participating in the run, or coffee and paint, you can atleast support through music,” Tushemereirwe explained.

The competition is open exclusively to UCU students. To enter, participants must complete an online Google Form to express interest, then upload a video of themselves singing, reciting poetry, or performing spoken word on Instagram or TikTok tagging the official handle @yvig_ug.

The auditions opened officially on August 1st and will run through the end of the month. A panel will select the top 10 videos, and the finalists will perform at a live grand finale on the 24th of September 2026.

It is through the payments to this event that the scholarship drive will raise funds. Students will pay UGX 10,000 while staff members will pay UGX 20,000 through the UCU fundraising account registered on MTN MOMO through the code: 724366.

“The top three performers will win great cash prizes, which we are currently being finalized by University management,” The event will also be embellished by performances from prominent Christian artists such Wake, Lagen and others,” Tushemereirwe noted.

“Your Voice is Giving” will happen alongside the annual UCU Annual Tuition Run, which is scheduled for October 10, spearheaded by the guild government. The integration of both events could increase participation and resource mobilization as the university seeks to raise funds to support students with tuition challenges.
