The North Kigezi Diocese Bishop, Right Reverend Benon Magezi has succumbed to Covid-19. He died yesterday, June 15. This comes a week after he had tested positive for Covid-19 and had since been admitted at Mbarara regional referral hospital.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, was among the first to break news of the death of the cleric: “ The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, regrets to announce the untimely death of the Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi, Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese.”
The deceased was married to Mrs. Gladys Magezi, with whom they have five children.
He was consecrated the fifth Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese on January 8, 2017, at Emmanuel Cathedral, Kinyasano, Rukungiri District: He succeeded Rt. Rev Patrick Tugume-Tusingwire.
He is an alumnus of the UCU, Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology, from where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in 2009. He later acquired a certificate in Theology and a Diploma in the same field, from Bishop Barham University College, Kabale.
