     Sport-S 3–1 UCU Doves
    UCU Lady Doves 1–3 Sport-S

    By Michael Ainomugisha

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves suffered a 3-1 defeat to defending champions Sport-S in the National Volleyball League fixture played on November 9, 2025, at the Sport-S Grounds, YES Center Nsambya.

The Doves started brightly, taking the first set 25-19 after building an early six-point lead at 20-14. Their strong serves and quick attacks unsettled the hosts, giving UCU a confident start.

However, Sport-S regrouped and bounced back in the second set with a 25-20 win, levelling the game at 1-1. The third set was tightly contested, with the Doves pushing hard but falling short 25-23 after a decisive block from Sport-S.

The momentum shifted completely in the fourth set as Sport-S dominated 25-15 to seal the match 3-1. Despite the loss, the Doves showed flashes of their quality and determination against one of the league’s toughest opponents.

“It was a tough game against the defending champions, but the boys played at their top game. We were affected by the lighting, which interrupted the tempo, but we’ll bounce back and look for more points to stay in the top four,” said team captain Mark Omara Ochan.

Ochan added that the team remains focused on its season goals.

“We are currently in fifth with a game in hand. Our plan is to win all the remaining games and stay in the top four by the end of the first leg.”

On the same night, the UCU Lady Doves also lost 3-1 to Sport-S Ladies in the Women’s Serie A encounter. The defeat came a day after another 3-1 loss to KCB Nkumba on November 8, where the Lady Doves managed to take the third set 25-18 but struggled to maintain consistency in the other sets (20-25, 14-25, 19-25).

Both UCU teams will look to bounce back stronger in their upcoming league fixtures as the season continues.
