UCU Lasy Canon 56 – 40 KIU Rangers

    By Michael Ainomugisha

The UCU Lady Canons continued their impressive start to the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season, securing a 56-40 win over KIU Rangers at Lugogo Indoor Arena on 29th March.

Coming off a 75-68 victory against Miracle Ravens in their season opener, Coach Nicholas Natuhereza’s side put on another dominant display to make it two wins in two games.

UCU set the tone early, taking a 10-point lead (18-8) in the first quarter. While KIU showed resilience in the second quarter, UCU remained in control at halftime, leading 32-21.

A tight third quarter (9-10) saw KIU momentarily match UCU, but the Lady Canons responded with a strong 15-9 finish in the fourth quarter to close out the game comfortably.

Millicent Otieno led the Lady Canons with 15 points, while captain Shillah Lamunu Aber registered a double-digit performance with 11 points. Rookie Sarah Namale made an impact on the boards, securing eight rebounds.

For KIU Rangers, Elizabeth Aguti Akol was the standout performer, finishing with 12 points.

The UCU Lady Canons will now shift their focus to their next fixture against A1 Challenge on April 2, 2025 (Wednesday) at 7:00 PM at YMCA Wandegeya.
