Uganda Christian University, UCU Lady Doves qualify for semi-finals of the women’s volleyball category in the 20th Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games 2025.

UCU Lady Doves made to the semifinals after a 3-set win at the expense of Bishop Stuart University, BSU Volleyball Women’s team, the game ending 3-0.

In an ecstatic game, UCU Lady Doves won the first set 25-16, the second set 25-14, and the third set 25-11, making a shortcut of playing five sets by winning them in a row.

Outstanding performance from the team setter, Elizabeth Owembabazi, who controlled the team’s playing rhythm, made the game more entertaining with the BSU women’s Volleyball players struggling to defend the strong spikes she set for Patricia Alado.

Daphine Kinobe also made it difficult for the Mbarara City based team to find relief by scoring against the fierce UCU Lady Doves through various dig ups he made from the shots they made a reason why they failed to reach at least halfway points of a complete Volleyball set especially in the third set.

UCU Lady Doves setter and playmaker Owembabazi in a post-match interview, clearly explained that she was outstanding today because of her position of play, as a setter, every second ball is yours, so I had to make sure I was in a good position and rotate every time we made a point.

” I can’t say that my position is tiresome because I do it out of passion and love. There is no magic in sports and everything you want in sports you work for it, and we have really worked for this and we hope to win all the games and eventually clinch the trophy for this tournament’s edition. ” Stated Owembabazi.

” Our opponent was not weak in my opinion as Owembabazi but I think we were a better team and a little bit more organized so that we didn’t give the opponent a chance of leading us and above all we participate in the National Volleyball Women’s league, we have met stronger teams there before and may be these are not as strong as we expected. ” Said Owembabazi.

After winning all the two group stage phase games for the Volleyball Women’s category in their group A by defeating both Makerere University Business School, MUBS and Bishop Stuart University, BSU by three sets to nil, UCU Lady Doves now look forward to playing semifinals based on how opponents in group B will play.
