After a series of excellent performances at various moot court competitions, Uganda Christian University (UCU) law students are preparing to represent the country on the global stage.
The duo comprises Bachelor of Laws students in their fourth year, Rebecca Mukisa Namugambe and Sylivia Namugerwa.
They will represent UCU at the Advanced Global Rounds of the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition after emerging among the top 24 teams in the world. They are also the only Ugandan university that will attend the competition which will be held on 12th to 20th July.
The team earned their spot in the in-person advanced rounds by ranking in the top 50 written memorials globally from the preliminary rounds which happened between 18th and 23rd May.
The advanced rounds will take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, over a period of eight days. The duo will be supported by researchers Louis Bamugha, Janice Tumwine, and Brenda Birungi.
Namugambe described her selection to represent the university at the upcoming international competition in Switzerland as the result of consistent performance and active participation in coaching and international networking programmes.
“The journey began after I excelled in a coaching course, where the best participants from each stream were identified. This was followed by a workshop in 2023, during which participants formed a mutual association that created opportunities for international training and representation. My first opportunity to represent UCU internationally came in 2023 during the All-African Network programme held in Rwanda.
In 2025, I again represented the university through the JOSEP programme, which provided exposure at both regional and international levels, including activities in Washington, D.C., United States of America,” said Namugambe.
Namugambe further noted, “My recent achievements in other competitions have also strengthened my credentials and prepared me for the upcoming event in Switzerland. I am confident that my teammate and I are well prepared for the competition. We have undergone training with different coaches, and we are determined to represent both UCU and the country with distinction.”
The duo who study at the UCU Kampala Campus School of Law are currently working on their visa arrangements in Kenya as they look forward to representing the university on the international stage.
