Uganda Christian University is mourning the passing on of Ms. Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Student Affairs (DOSA). Ms Tumwebaze, who was a resident of Goma, Seeta Ward in Mukono District was pronounced dead early on the morning of February 11th in Namirembe Hospital where she was rushed following an attack at her home.
A team of Police officers led by ASP Alituha, the Officer in Charge Mukono Police Station visited the scene and produced a report detailing the events that led to the demise of Tumwebaze.
According to the report, “An unknown person gained entry into her house and strangled her. She was rushed to Namirembe Hospital where she was pronounced dead,” The report also stated that the deceased had come back home on Tuesday night at about 10pm with her two sons and the house help Sharif Lwantale opened the gate and the house and closed it off after she came in.
It’s presumed that the assailant could have gained access to the premises during
this period. The report also stated that the assailant took a laptop bag with unestablished items including her phone.
According to the house help Lwantale, who The Standard spoke to, the attack occurred at about
3am in the morning.
“I heard footsteps and movements in the night within the house. When I came out I saw a dark
man. I tried to ask who he was but his reaction scared me and I went back to the children’s room,”Lwantale said.
When the assailant left the house Lwantale rushed into Ms Tumwebaze’s room and found her unresponsive, at which point calls were made and a driver came and took Tumwebaze to the hospital.
A UCU student who previously lived with Tumwebaze, named Patricia Wako said that this wasn’t the first attack on her residence.
“I remember on 31st [December] a thief broke in and stole the bicycles, and a photocopy of his
ID fell down. The DOSA reported the incident to the police.” The robber at that time however
didn’t gain access to the main house. The body of Ms Tumwebaze is still in Namirembe Hospital awaiting a postmortem.
