Uganda Christian University’s (UCU) Honors College hosted a career exhibition on Saturday, March 16th, this year, under the theme ‘NAVIGATING HORIZONS: A Journey Through Diverse Careers’. The event aimed to spotlight students, schools, and faculties excelling in various skills beyond academic competencies.

Francis Katabaazi Katongole, a member of parliament for Kalungu East, was also the guest of honor at the career showcase. He told the students to start being creative and not to wait until they leave school to begin doing so.

Katongole pointed out that for every problem one sees, as long as one can get a solution to it, one can make money out of it: “A salary has never made you rich; therefore, for those who want riches, you have to earn a profit.” He emphasized.

He highlighted that one should get an idea, make the money, save, and invest in a business or side hustle for the salary earners.

Dickson Tumuramye, head of the Department of Honors College, echoed Katongole’s sentiments, encouraging students to shift from being job seekers to job creators. He emphasized UCU’s commitment to producing well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills and mindset to thrive in diverse career paths.

Tumuramye pointed out that there are so many students who are very innovative and very creative as individuals, but he noted that “sometimes, as a university, we do not get to know who is doing what.”.

“We decided to have this exhibition to provide an opportunity to showcase their work so that the world can appreciate their innovations and their creativity,” Tumuramye said.

Ashura Keza Nalubega, a student from the faculty of nursing science and one of the exhibitors, said that it was an amazing day because they shared with people about counseling and guidance. They had an open talk where anyone could come and be listened to.

“What stood out for me today was the art section; it was amazing. I loved everything, going there for molding, painting, and all the other things they had,” Nalubega stated.

Phionah Zalwango Kwagala, one of the high school students invited from Mukono High School, said that she has been inspired by the environment of the university, its hospitality, and all that has been exhibited.

“Since I want to join the law school, after all I have seen, I am now very inspired to join this campus so that I can also become a great lawyer in Uganda.” She noted.

The exhibitors included USANI Africa, the School of Journalism, Career Mapping, Agricultural Science, and AISEC, among others.
