University Football League Semifinal

Kampala University 0-1 Nkumba University

Nkumba University now has a foot in the finals of the ongoing 2023–24 University Football League campaign.

This comes shortly after Nkumba secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Kampala University in a game that was played at Prison Grounds, Luzira, on Tuesday.

Benjamin Nsubuga guided the ball into his net after a clumsy back pass, eventually placing Nkumba University in the driving seat in the 12th minute.

Without any pressure, Nsubuga guided the ball past his custodian into the net, and it was a disastrous moment for the hosts.

From the moment going forward, the hosts took full charge of the game but were very wasteful in front of the goal.

Six minutes into the second stanza, Nkumba University’s custodian pulled off a stunning save, denying the hosts a leveller.

In the 59th minute of the game, Kampala University was awarded a penalty, but Tonny Ndase failed to place the ball on target.

The hosts kept knocking on the door in the final minutes of the game but failed to put the ball past the goal line.

Nkumba will go home with an advantage, knowing that they only have to guard themselves against a loss in the second leg to seal a ticket to the final.

After the final whistle, Nkumba head coach Suleiman Bbossa cautioned the boys that the game is not yet done and they will still have to work hard in the second leg.

“We have the advantage now, although I think the game is not yet over. The margin is so narrow, and we should not think that we are safe,” he noted.

“We made many mistakes and were so lucky not to concede today. We also gave away a lot of cautions that might come to haunt us going forward,” he added.
