Uganda Christian University’s (UCU) rugby contest at the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) is off to a fine start with the team taking care of their first opponents Kyambogo University and picking a draw with the defending champions Uganda Martyrs’ University, Nkozi.
The first match ended 17-14, thanks to tries from Divine Mawanda, Brian Ngabo and Allan Karuhanga. In the second encounter, In their second contest, the UCU Shepherds fell down to Nkozi by 14 points at halftime, but they managed to level up the score with successive tries from Allan Mungufeni and Divine Mawanda who bounced back on the scoresheet for the second time.
In the 2023 edition, UCU came third behind Nkozi and runners up, Victoria University (VU) who looked so much in shape after taking Makerere University (MUK) 24 points to nil. In this edition, 6 universities participate in a table format with each game taking 15 minutes. A win earns four points while a draw gives 2 points. Each team will have an opportunity to play each of the five different teams in the competition before the close of the day, and the winner will be announced thereafter.
We were not able to schedule interviews with the camp, but the mood in the camp suggests that they are focused and ready for their next fixtures. The Shepherds meet MUK, VU and Kampala International University (KIU) respectively in their next fixtures
