    Uganda  2-0 Congo.

    By Michael Ainomugisha

The Uganda national football team (Uganda Cranes) defeated Congo Republic 2-0 in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in group K, prompting celebrations at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

Uganda won through goals in both halves from defender Abdu Azizi Kayondo and late first-half substitute Jude Ssemugabi. The Cranes, playing their second home game in almost three years, were energised from the opening whistle till the game’s end.

Coach Paul Put made two changes to the lineup that drew 2–2 away to South Africa, with Kenneth Ssemakula replacing Elvis Bwomono at right defender and Muhammad Shaban, who passed a late fitness test, taking Steven Desse Mukwala’s spot at centre forward.

Uganda started the game at a fast pace and dominated the early stages.

A victory  moves the Cranes to four points in group K, tentatively topping the log as South Sudan hosts South Africa later today.

The final whistle  met with loud cries from home players, officials, and spectators alike as celebrations and parties continued until late at night.
