Bridget Mbwali raised the Uganda Christian University (UCU) flag high after winning the Uganda Athletics National Track and Field Championships 200m final in the women’s category, as the university hosted this year’s edition of the athletics championships.
Mbwali, UCU’s sprint runner, won the race and contributed to the university’s success as it clinched fourth position overall with a total of 97 points, finishing behind Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Athletics Club, Uganda Police Athletics Club and Uganda Prisons Athletics Club, respectively.
Mbwali attributed her latest victory to faith in God, disciplined training, the guidance of her coach, and the unwavering support of the university community.
“The race was highly competitive. I entered it with confidence and determination. My greatest motivation was to make UCU proud by putting the university at the top. I love my university because it has given me many opportunities and supported me in achieving my dreams,” she said.
Other UCU participants were Joseph Okorimo Robinson Angaya Onaba, Dickens Odong and Lawrence Kidega-Nono, who all took part in the men’s 4×100m relay.
UCU finished fourth overall after collecting 41 points in the women’s category and 56 points in the men’s category, giving the university a total of 97 points.
This year’s edition attracted a total of 104 teams across both the men’s and women’s categories. Of these, 37 teams in the men’s category went home without a point, while 39 teams in the women’s category also failed to register any points.
The participating teams included districts such as Mayuge, Zombo, Arua City, Masindi and Mbarara City, as well as educational institutions such as Makerere University, Kampala International University and UCU, alongside government institutions including Uganda Police, UWA, Uganda Prisons and many others.
