    AFCON 2023: Group C Results

    Senegal 3-0, Gambia

    Cameroon 1-1 Guinea

Defending Champions Senegal secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory against 10-man Gambia in the on-going 2023 AFCON Championship on Monday.

The 20-year-old Lamine Camara put up a great show, scoring two and bossing the middle park as his side took the game to Gambia.

In the game played at Yamoussoukro, Senegal took the lead as early as the fourth minute as Papa Gueye’s ground effort sailed into the back of the net.

Gueye’s first touch finish proved his calmness and thrilling technique after being set up by Sadio Mane in front of goal.

Gambia had a chance to level matters shortly before the half-hour mark, but Ali Sowe directed his close-range header wide of the frame.

As the Scorpions fought for life to return in the game, they suffered a big blow after Ebou Adams was red carded for a rough challenge on Camara.

Seven minutes after the restart, Camara doubled Senegal’s lead with a great finish after getting on the end of Ismail Sarr’s delivery.

From that point on, Aliou Cisse’s troops took charge of the game, giving a lot of trouble to Gambia’s back line.

With four minutes to play, Camara curled home a spectacular goal to wrap up their emphatic victory in their opening game of the tournament.

The victory puts Senegal on top of Group C with three points, while Gambia lies at the bottom of the same group.
