Canons edge Rezlife to protect home court

UCU Canons returned to action in the second round of the 2026 National Basketball League with a hard-fought 69–65 victory over Rezlife Saints at the UCU Main Court in Mukono.

The result extends UCU’s strong home record and offers a timely boost after a first-round campaign that left them with a 5–6 record.

Rezlife made the better start, taking the first quarter 17–13 before building on their momentum in the second. They controlled the pace and stretched the lead to 44–36 at halftime, punishing UCU’s slow starts on both ends of the floor.

The third quarter remained tight, with both teams scoring nine points apiece. Rezlife held on to their advantage heading into the final period, with UCU still trailing and in need of a response.

That response came in the fourth quarter.

UCU raised their intensity, especially in transition, and found rhythm through their guards. They outscored Rezlife 24–12 in the final period to complete the comeback and secure the win in front of their home crowds.

Point guard Flore Dushime led the charge with his season-high 26 points and eight rebounds. He scored 12 of UCU’s 24 fourth-quarter points, taking control when it mattered most. Marvin Okurut added 21 points and six rebounds to support the effort.

Rezlife showed depth, with multiple players stepping up. Hon Kwany led with 20 points; Rin Tueny Mabor posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, while returning Chris Omanye added 11 points.

Despite the balanced effort, Rezlife could not match UCU’s late push.

The win gives the Canons momentum as they push for a playoff place, with their home court once again proving a key factor.
