UCU’s first women’s NBL title came in 2008, followed by championships in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2022. The return to the finals gives the Lady Canons an opportunity to add another chapter to a programme that has remained a consistent presence in Ugandan women’s basketball.
UCU volleyball teams, the UCU Doves and Lady Doves, are set to host the 18th edition of the university’s annual talent development tournament at the UCU Mukono Campus from August 22–23, 2026.
The victory gives UCU Canons their fifth consecutive third-place finish in the NBL playoffs, having also claimed bronze in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Coached by UCU Canons shooting guard Zachariah Ekirappa, the SJMC and Social Sciences side put up a determined performance to seal the podium finish in a highly contested encounter.
The win was pivotal on the well-coordinated backline of UCU Lady Cardinals, commanded by Prossy Basemera and Harriet Muwugumya, as well as the team’s ball carrier upfront, Cathy Nassimbwa, who was in her prime form so far this season, making the defence of Jinja United Women FC look shaky.
School of Social Sciences combined with School of Journalism, Media and Communication (SJMC) have reached the grand final of the football category at the 2026 Uganda Christian University (UCU) Inter-Faculty Games.
Three-time semi-finalists, FEDT, outshone last edition’s first runners-up, the School of Law. They were more composed from defence to attack, while Law was defensively solid but poor and inconsistent in midfield.
The 1-1 draw came after Isaac Ofoyroth scored for UCU Cardinals, while Geoffrey Ssenyonga found the net for Kyaggwe FC. Both goals were scored in the first half.
The victory means the Lady Cardinals now await the third-round draw to determine their next opponents, as well as when and where the match will be played.
