UCU Lady Cardinals 4-2 Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC
Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals sealed the 2021/22 FUFA Women’s Super League in the fourth position on a 10-team log.
This was achieved after registering a 4-2 victory against Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga at UCU Grounds on Friday.
Hasifah Nassuna’s hatrick and Harima’s own goal gave UCU maximum points before Catherine Nagadya and Elizabeth Nakigozi scored the only goals for the hosts.
Having had a tough season coupled with financial strains and life with mainstay (goalkeeper) Ruth Aturo, UCU put up a great show to forget the sorrow.
Nassuna continued to show class after opening the goal scoring account with a beautiful freekick that left Uganda Martyrs’ custodian helpless.
Harima Kanyago later scored into her own net before Nassuna made it three to secure the home victory.
At the end of the first half, the visitors were awarded a penalty and Catherine Nagadya converted from the spot to find a consolation.
In the second half, the captain of UCU Nassuna sealed what one could call a one-man show after converting a penalty to seal off a hatrick.
The Martyrs later found the second goal through Nakigozi, but it was too late for them to get anything out of the game.
The result meant that UCU finished fourth with 28 points while Uganda Martyrs finished third with 34 points.
Nassuna will feel disappointed after missing the golden boot by a goal. She concluded the season with 15 goals, one short of Fazila Ikwaput.
