    Lady Cardinals season review

Hasifah Nassuna netted a hat trick as the Cardinals dispatched their opponents easily to continue their recent rich vein of form.

In a season that promised so much hope and expectation, it feels like the season was one filled with inconsistency that ended up with the team finishing in fourth place with 28 points, having won eight games and losing six games.

This marks the worst position that the Cardinals have finished in since they won their first title in Bushenyi, 2019.

Part of the struggles of the team this season was the poor home form they experienced during the mid-season where they failed to win four home games in a row, suffering defeats to title rivals like Kampala Queens.

The 2022 season also saw the launch of the FIFA-FUFA league development at Uganda Christian University, where the FUFA president urged that such projects will only improve the professionalism of the league in the country.

The coverge of the Women’s Super League on FUFA TV is a success of the season, which will improve the popularity of the league as well as increase stakeholders, which will monetise the league in a few years to come.

The improvement of the more technical side of the game will benefit all the stakeholders involved.

Christian Magoba, the head coach, and Sharon Kizza, his assistant, have both earned a CAF B coaching license, the second highest level in Africa.

The 2022 season is remembered as the one where Hasifah Nassuna achieved immortality by becoming the first woman in Uganda to score 100 goals professionally.

It has been a record that she deserves more than anybody because of her consistency and commitment to the league where she has been an eight-season veteran.

The UCU gaffer says that this season has been one of rebuilding but is proud of the way the players fought and battled hard throughout the season.

Hasifah Nassuna made history as her brace took her to 100 league goals

“I am extremely happy with the way the team played this season. We had our challenges as a team, but we came through and finished in the top four. I am looking forward to next season, “he says.”

He also says that there will be further reshuffling in the squad as some players are due to leave after their graduation and new players are expected to boost the ranks.

In other positive news, Hasifah Nassuna, Sandra Kisakye, Banura Phoebe, and Sandra Nankya were selected for the provisional squad for the CECAFA and AFWCON campaigns for the Crested Cranes.
