Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals staged a second-half comeback to defeat BUL Women FC 2-1 in a FUFA Women’s Elite League fixture played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The hosts took an early lead in the seventh minute through midfielder Shadia Nakiwala, giving BUL a 1-0 advantage heading into the halftime break.
UCU responded immediately after the restart, with Jane Nantongo finding the equaliser in the 48th minute to bring the visitors back into the contest.
The Lady Cardinals continued to press for a winner and were rewarded with 12 minutes remaining when youngster Ritah Kadondi found the back of the net to complete the turnaround and secure all three points.
The victory was particularly significant for UCU, who were seeking revenge for their 1-0 defeat to BUL on March 22, a result that formed part of a difficult start to the season.
Since then, the Lady Cardinals have recovered strongly, putting together an impressive run of results to revive their hopes of returning to the Finance Trust Bank Women Super League.
The win further strengthens UCU’s position in the promotion race as they continue their push for a return to Uganda’s top tier of women’s football.
