With the Uganda Netball Super League set to start on April 5, 2025, after a two-year break, the Netball Uganda Athletes’ Committee has elected Uganda Christian University (UCU) Angels captain Linda Muzigo as its Chairperson.
A Uganda Christian University (UCU) student and former minister of sports in the 26th Guild Government, Linda Muzigo, has been elected as the pioneer chairperson of the newly established Netball Uganda Athletes’ Committee.
This milestone was achieved during a meeting held at the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) premises in Lugogo, Kampala, on March 5, 2025. Muzigo’s appointment marks a significant shift in athlete representation within Uganda’s netball governance.
The committee was formed following recent challenges within the Uganda Netball Federation (UNF), which led to the intervention of a normalisation committee. Its primary aim is to give players a stronger voice in decision-making and ensure their rights and welfare are prioritized.
“It’s a pleasure to be the pioneer of this committee,” Muzigo said. “For a long time, athletes have not been represented on the executive committee. Now, we have an opportunity to advocate for our rights and openly express the challenges we face. This committee ensures that athletes, who are the backbone of the sport, have a say in the governance of netball in Uganda.”
Muzigo, a third-year Business Administration student at UCU, has extensive leadership experience in sports. She serves as the captain of the UCU Angels netball team and plays a key role as the university’s sports minister. She believes her background as an active athlete makes her well-equipped to understand and address the challenges players face.
“As an athlete myself, I know the struggles we go through,” she explained. “It would be difficult for someone who hasn’t experienced these challenges to relate. My priority is to engage directly with athletes, understand their concerns, and ensure their issues are addressed through the right channels.”
Muzigo emphasised the importance of professionalism and research in handling athlete concerns. She assured players that her leadership would focus on thorough investigations before drawing conclusions and that solutions would be pursued through proper procedures.
