UCU Lady Canons: 71–66 JKL Dolphins.

    (UCU leads 1-0.)

    By Michael Ainomugisha

The UCU Lady Canons have secured a vital 1-0 lead in the FUBA National Basketball League finals after a 71-66 victory over the JKL Lady Dolphins in the first game of the best-of-seven series.

The Lady Canons started strong, establishing a commanding 15-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Their momentum carried into halftime, where they extended their advantage to 40-23, leaving the Lady Dolphins trailing by 17 points.

Captain Shakirah Nanvubya was instrumental in the victory, scoring 21 points. Tracy Namugosa added 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals, and Sheila Lamunu contributed 11.

For the Lady Dolphins, Jane Asinde led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Ekone Brenda with 13 points. Hope Akello and Imanishimwe also added 12 points each, helping JKL narrow the deficit in the final quarters, but their efforts fell short.

UCU’s dominance on the boards, out-rebounding JKL 56-49, was crucial, especially as the Lady Dolphins mounted a late surge in the game. Despite the Dolphins’ efforts, the Lady Canons maintained their lead and secured the win.

This victory gives UCU a significant 1-0 lead in the finals series, paving the way for their next game.
