The work of Ngũgĩ is some of the best-regarded in all of Africa’s history, dealing with the complexities of the post-colonial landscape through prose and plays. Some of his most notable works include Petals of Blood (1977), The River Between (1965) and Weep Not, Child (1964). It is the strength of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o’s oeuvre that saw him awarded some of the most prestigious literary awards.

Uganda Christian University’s basketball teams marked the start of the second round with wins; both the UCU Canons and UCU Lady Canons secured wins in their National Basketball League games at YMCA Wandegeya courts on Saturday, May 31.

The UCU Canons wrapped up their first round of the 2025 National Basketball League in style, grinding out a 59–54 victory over the JT Jaguars in a tense encounter played under the lights at YMCA Wandegeya on Wednesday, May 21.

The first quarter ended evenly at 16–16, with both sides testing each other in a balanced opening. UCU began to pull away in the second, outscoring the Oilers 18–13 to take a five-point lead into the half.

The Hamu Mukasa Library was officially opened on the 28th of October, 2011 by the Late Ambassador Jerry P. Lanier, one of the former US ambassadors in Uganda and a serving US diplomat in Sub Saharan Africa. It was named after the former Chief of Kyagwe County in the Kingdom of Buganda for his contribution made through the donation of the land where the university now sits.

Namutebi credits her internship for sharpening her time management and storytelling skills. “I learned how to package stories under tight timelines and how to interact with professionals in the field. It’s an experience that gave me confidence and clarity about my career goals,” she says.

In 2021, during his first year at UCU, Tumusiime enrolled in a Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management programme. While many of his peers focused solely on their studies, Tumusiime identified a market opportunity that changed his trajectory. “I chose this fruit business because it doesn’t require a lot of startup capital,” he explained. “With fruits, you’re dealing with a product everyone needs because they are healthy and packed with vitamins.”

On January 3, 2012, Prof. Monica Chibita embarked on a transformative journey as she joined Uganda Christian University (UCU) after 17 years of service at Makerere University. At Makerere, she had climbed the academic ladder from lecturer to associate professor, taking on roles such as assistant coordinator, coordinator, and head of department.

Drunk driving remains a pressing issue in Uganda, contributing to a significant number of road accidents and fatalities. According to the Uganda Police Force (UPF), the number of reported fatalities in the country increased by 6% from 4534 in 2022 to 4806 in 2023, over 3,500 road traffic accidents in the past year were linked to alcohol consumption, resulting in more than 800 deaths.

Lyton Kiyayi Kalete has experienced a career change from aviation to exploring the digital marketing scene. During the Launchpad debate two days before voting day, Wangabira pushed through to speak amidst loud chants from Muwanika’s supporters that erupted momentarily during the debate.

The UCU Lady Cardinals  team secured an impressive 3-0 win over Maseno University, with Jovia Nakagolo netting two goals and Jane Nantongo adding a third. However, the UCU men’s football team faced heartbreak in the quarterfinals, drawing 0-0 against Kampala University (KU) in regulation time but losing 5-4 in a penalty shootout. The Lady Cardinals are set to battle it out with Makerere University.
