Uganda Christian University (UCU) has officially welcomed the first-year students through an induction ceremony. The ceremony that was merged with the weekly community worship service held at the University’s multi-purpose hall- Nkoyoyo, ran on the theme, “How shall we live”.
Dr. John Kitayimbwa, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who was also the preacher of the day urged the students to observe UCU core values and Christian standards. “As UCU we aspire to form our students holistically and we aim to achieve the objectives of preserving UCU’s identity as an authentic Christian institution,” he said, adding, “What makes us different is that we aspire to be an authentic Christian institution.”
During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi also urged students to join in elevating further the University brand, which he said they were lucky to be part of. He cited proverbs 22:1 – “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.”
First-year students from the various faculties including; Education and Arts, Law, Science and Technology, Business, Journalism, Media, and Communication attended.
Moses Mugolo, a first-year student doing a Bachelor of Divinity said it is an aspiration come true to be at UCU. “I chose UCU because of its good quality education and has produced many role models in our society,” he said.
The induction ceremony is an annual orientation program for newly enrolled students. Ordinarily, it happens during the Advent semester of UCU.
