The UCU Lady Cardinals kicked off their season in style with a 2-0 victory over Kawempe Muslim Junior Team in the Finance Trust Women’s Elite League, marking Colline Ahumuza’s first win as head coach.

Early goals from Cathy Nassimbwa in the 10th minute and Jovia Nakagolo eight minutes later secured the victory for the Lady Cardinals with a wonderful finish after a dribble passed the goalkeeper.

UCU dominated the match from the onset, creating several scoring opportunities. Kawempe’s goalkeeper put in a resilient performance, denying multiple chances before a defender cleared the ball off the line following a clever chip by Nakagolo.

The match also saw the return of defender Harriet Muwugumya, who made her comeback after a year out due to a knee injury, and Ritah Adero, who featured for the first time since the AUUS University Games 2023.

UCU’s next match will see them face St Noa Girls Zana FC away at IUIU Kabojja as they aim to continue their fine form.
